Man charged after Mountie shot at on Saskatchewan reserve

A 19-year-old man is facing a charge of attempted murder after two Mounties were shot at while responding to a call on a reserve northeast of Saskatoon.

CARROT RIVER, Sask. — A 19-year-old man is facing a charge of attempted murder after two Mounties were shot at while responding to a call on a reserve northeast of Saskatoon.

RCMP have also charged Davis Demery Lester Whitehead with intent to endanger a life by discharging a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited and three counts of breaching probation.

The charges come after a gunshot shattered the windshield of a police vehicle while officers were patrolling the Red Earth First Nation early Tuesday.

The officers shot back and a standoff followed that lasted for several hours until four men surrendered to police.

Mounties say the other three men have been released without charges.
