A man charged with sexually assaulting a young male must enter a plea on his next court appearance, a judge told the man’s lawyer on Thursday.

Thomas Paul Ganger, 63, was ordered through his lawyer to enter a plea on Nov. 25, provincial court Judge Gordon Deck told lawyer Dave Inglis, who was acting for Ganger, who wasn’t present in court.

Ganger was charged following an incident in which a young adult male was allegedly assaulted on Jan. 21. The information was sworn on July 22.

The judge also told court he should be disqualified from hearing the case if it proceeds to a trial. No reason was given.

Ganger is the former chairman of the 1998 Alberta Winter Games, which were held in Red Deer.
