MEDICINE HAT — A southern Alberta man has pleaded guilty to breaking into several homes and sexually assaulting women and a teenaged girl.

Shaun Desruisseaux lowered his head and wept Thursday as a judge in Medicine Hat, Alta., read from an agreed statement of facts.

Court heard of six incidents between December 2008 and March 2011 and in most cases he entered an unlocked home wearing a black mask and wielding a knife.

In the last incident, a woman heard a commotion in her home and when she investigated, found Desruisseaux with her teen daughter.

She chased the man down the street and police credited her with catching the serial sex assaulter.

In another, he confronted a woman on a path, head-butted her and held a knife to her throat and demanded to see her breasts.

Desruisseaux had originally been facing 28 charges, but pleaded guilty to 12.

The judge has ordered a risk assessment before he passes sentence on May 9.
