Man claims ‘spirits’ informed him of McCanns’ location

The son of an Alberta couple who have been missing for seven months says his family has been upset by a newspaper ad placed by a man who claims to know where they are.

EDMONTON — The son of an Alberta couple who have been missing for seven months says his family has been upset by a newspaper ad placed by a man who claims to know where they are.

Brett McCann says he called the number in the ad and the man told him that “spirits” had informed him where his parents are.

McCann says he’s not sure what the man’s motivation is, but calls the incident “twisted.”

He says the man didn’t seem to believe he was the son of Lyle and Marie McCann.

He says he suggested the man call police.

The McCanns, both in their 70s, vanished last July while on their way from the Edmonton area to British Columbia.

Lyle and Marie McCann disappeared on July 3rd when they left St. Albert to go on a road trip to southern B.C.

Their burned out motorhome and SUV were recovered east of Edson a couple weeks later.

Brett McCann says he’s worried the ad, which was also noticed by friends and family members, will take away from the search for his missing parents.

“What worries me about this is that it will confuse the public about the situation,” he said.

“My parents are still missing, there’s still an investigation team . . . trying to uncover what happened.”

While he knows people mean well, he says anyone with information about his parents should call the police instead of using unconventional methods.

A special cash reward of $60,000 is still being offered by Crime Stoppers to anyone with information that leads to finding the couple.
