Man dies after falling from back of pickup truck

Three Hills RCMP have laid criminal charges in connection with the death of a man who fell out of the back of a pickup truck he was riding in late Wednesday.

Three Hills RCMP have laid criminal charges in connection with the death of a man who fell out of the back of a pickup truck he was riding in late Wednesday.

This morning, police released the identity of the man who was killed after striking his head on the pavement on Hwy 21, one km south of Trochu.

Edward Steven Jaworenko, 44, of Delia, located near Drumheller, was found deceased upon arrival of emergency crews.

Police say the incident had just occurred when they came upon the scene at about 10:30 p.m. Trochu firefighters and Kneehill Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene as well.

It’s alleged that the pickup truck had been northbound on Hwy 21 when Jaworenko fell out.

Police shut down the highway for about six hours while RCMP conducted their investigation between Hwy 27 and Hwy 585.

The female driver was arrested and charges relating to the incident were laid. Police say the pair had been in a common-law relationship.

Deanna Amthor, 44, has been charged with refusal to provide a breath sample, criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

She will appear in Drumheller provincial court on Jan. 5.

The collision remains under investigation.
