The man badly burned in a house fire in Deer Park on Tuesday has died.

Red Deer RCMP said on Thursday that Dale Roth, 69, passed away from his injuries.

He was transferred to a Calgary hospital by STARS following the fire at 12 Drummond Ave. at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Roth was a resident of an approved secondary suite in the basement. The other resident, who lived upstairs, was not home at the time. The home sustained about $300,000 in damage from the fire.

Arson is not suspected in the fire, although the cause is undetermined and still under investigation. The home was equipped with smoke detectors but there was too much damage to know if the basement alarm was working.

Bob Boudreau, fire investigator with Red Deer Emergency Services, said the last fatal fire in Red Deer was in July 2009. That was a cooking-related fire, he said.
