CREMONA — A 56-year-old man has been killed in a collision involving a semi-truck that was trying to pass a snowplow.

RCMP say the snowplow was throwing a lot of snow up in the air as it cleared Highway 580 near Cremona, Alta., leaving visibility poor across both lanes.

However, a semi following the snowplow decided to pass anyway, colliding head-on with a pickup truck.

The driver and single occupant of the pickup, who was from Cremona, died at the scene.

The driver of the semi was treated by EMS at the scene for minor injuries and released.

No charges have yet been laid.
