ARDROSSAN — Police have laid more than a dozen charges related to cattle theft and fraud in an area east of Edmonton.

Strathcona County RCMP say they first received a complaint three years ago that a central Alberta producer was missing 138 head of purebred Angus cattle.

He alleged they had been stolen and sold.

Howard Schneider of Ardrossan, Alta., has been charged under the Criminal Code with 14 counts of fraud and theft.

He is also accused of transporting livestock out of Alberta without inspection.

Schneider, who is 57, is to appear in Sherwood Park provincial court on March 21.

There are still 84 cattle unaccounted for and the investigation continues.
