Man injured in Sylvan Lake house fire dies

A 66-year-old man who was seriously burned in an explosion and house fire in central Alberta has died.

Sylvan Lake and Red Deer County volunteer firefighters hose down a house’s still burning remains west of Sylvan Lake Monday night: the lone man inside was taken to hospital with serious burns.


SYLVAN LAKE — A 66-year-old man who was seriously burned in an explosion and house fire in central Alberta has died.

Sylvan Lake RCMP say the man died after being flown to Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Monday.

His name has not been released.

Neighbours say they heard a loud bang from a garage that had been converted into a house on the rural property.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
