CALGARY — Two men were in critical condition in hospital after one was stabbed and the other jumped from a ninth-floor balcony in downtown Calgary after allegedly holding a woman hostage.

Police got call from security at the apartment building Friday afternoon and found a man on the second floor with multiple stab wounds.

Insp. Frank Reuser said the man told police that a female friend was being held against her will in a ninth floor apartment.

The man fell six floors, landing on a third-floor balcony.

All three were taken to hospital. The men have life threatening injuries and the woman was treated for minor injuries

Lynda Harrison, who says she got laid off as apartment manager two weeks ago, said she heard a loud commotion followed by some banging and kicking on the door of a third floor unit.

Police are still trying to figure out what happened and why.

I called 911 and then went out to my balcony because I have an access to the parkade corner,” she said.

Police are still investigating.

“I noticed a gentleman lying outside the third floor with six police officers trying to revive him.”

Harrison also saw a pool of blood on the second floor while the stairway from ninth floor to the second floor was also smeared with blood.

She said she didn’t know any of the people and thought they were new tenants.
