BEAUMONT — A man is dead after he was shot by the RCMP during an eight-hour standoff.
RCMP say officers responded Sunday morning to a rural home southeast of the city after word that a 56-year-old man was threatening to harm himself.
Cpl. Darren Anderson, an RCMP spokesman, says Mounties set up a perimeter around the residence and established contact with the male. Later, the man emerged from the home with a gun and walked toward police. RCMP members then discharged their firearms at him, said Anderson.
His name has not been released.
