A 27-year-old Saskatchewan man is in an Edmonton hospital with serious head injuries after a dispute occurred early Sunday morning in Red Deer.

The man’s condition is “not good,” said Cpl. Kathe DeHeer with Red Deer City RCMP.

Around 3:15 a.m. RCMP intervened in a verbal dispute between two groups of people outside Billy Bob’s Country Music Dance Hall beside the Sheraton Hotel Red Deer.

The parties were separated with one group driving away in a vehicle and another heading southbound on foot.

A few minutes later the group in the vehicle approached the intersection at 32nd Street and Gaetz Avenue where the other group on foot was stopped, waiting to cross.

A verbal dispute started up again.

The 27-year-old man from Lumsden, Sask., got out of the vehicle to confront another man who was on foot.

A fight broke out and the Saskatchewan man began fighting with a second male when he fell and hit his head.

He was taken to Edmonton by STARS air ambulance.

Arrests have been made but no more information is available at this time, said DeHeer.

The Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section and Red Deer Major Crimes continue to investigate.
