EDMONTON — An Edmonton man who strangled his mother has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance at parole for at least 12 years.

Keshroy Bristol, who is 21, was convicted earlier this year of second-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old Beverly Parker.

Second-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence, but parole eligibility varies.

The defence had argued that Keshroy spend no more than 10 years in prison before being eligible for parole.

Court heard that Bristol twice confessed to police to killing his mother in February 2008, because he was angry at her for wanting to adopt his 10-month-old daughter.

But he recanted his confessions in court and blamed his then-girlfriend for the slaying.

The jury didn’t believe that and found him guilty.

It was the second trial for Keshroy — the first ended in a hung jury.
