Man who torched churches sentenced to prison

WETASKIWIN — A 23-year-old man is going to prison for setting fire to two churches in central Alberta.

WETASKIWIN — A 23-year-old man is going to prison for setting fire to two churches in central Alberta.

A judge sentenced Peter Terence Jones to four years for torching Wetaskiwin First United Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church last October.

Members of the churches’ congregations read victim impact statements on Thursday.

Many forgave Jones for destroying their places of worship.

Jones pleaded guilty to arson and break and enter and claimed he was under stress at the time of the crimes.
