Man’s remains found in fishermen’s nets after 26 years

VANCOUVER — The mystery of a missing B.C. man has been solved 26 years after he went scuba diving with a relative but failed to resurface.

VANCOUVER — The mystery of a missing B.C. man has been solved 26 years after he went scuba diving with a relative but failed to resurface.

Peter Devoe’s remains were found in diving gear entangled in the nets of two commercial fishermen on Oct. 23 in Burrard Inlet, just west of Cates Park.

The BC Coroners Service says Devoe was last seen diving at the North Vancouver park on March 13, 1985.

Coroners Service spokesman Stephen Fonseca says 29-year-old Devoe had experienced problems with his equipment that day.

He says emergency personnel were called but could not find Devoe’s body.

A medical cause of death could not be determined but foul play has been ruled out.
