Ty Mappin of Big Valley was the lone Central Albertan to be shortlisted for the Team Alberta U16 team.

Mappin, who played for the Red Deer Rebels White bantam AAA squad, is one of 34 players, who were shortlisted out of the 80 players who attended the provincial development camp in Camrose.

The players will be scouted with their club teams until the final 20 player roster will be announced prior to the 2011 Western Canada U16 Challenge in Moose Jaw.

Connor Bleackley of High River, who was the Red Deer Rebels first-round pick in this year’s WHL bantam draft, is also among the 19 forwards still on the list.

The Challenge Cup pits Alberta against the other three Western provinces. This will be the second year for the event.

Alberta captured gold in 2009 with a 6-4 win over Manitoba.
