EDMONTON — Alberta’s man in Washington appears to be coming home.

EDMONTON — Alberta’s man in Washington appears to be coming home.

The government confirms that Gary Mar has resigned his post as Alberta’s envoy in Washington, D.C.

Sources have said the former cabinet minister from the Ralph Klein era intends to make a run for the leadership of the Progressive Conservatives.

Premier Ed Stelmach announced earlier this year he was leaving politics and has made it clear that anyone seeking the job will have to give up their current post with the government.

Mar served as both health and education ministers under Klein.

The others running for the leadership are Ted Morton, Doug Horner, Alison Redford and Doug Griffiths.
