Marijuana rally planned in Red Deer for Easter Sunday

Peaceful rallies in support of legalizing marijuana will once again dot the country on Sunday, including one in Red Deer.

Peaceful rallies in support of legalizing marijuana will once again dot the country on Sunday, including one in Red Deer.

The annual celebration known as 4/20 will kick off at City Hall Park at 4 p.m. and run for about an hour.

Activists plan to use the time to call attention to issues surrounding the controversial plant, including medical access and its potential use as a superfood vegetable.

Nicole Raffa, the face behind the Cannabis Community of Red Deer group and the main organizer of the event, said she hopes to see 100 to 200 people come out.

The rally had been taking place in the city for more than 10 years, she said, and there have never been any major conflicts with the RCMP in regards to the rally.

There will be no presentations but flyers and informational pamphlets will be available.

The Red Deer event is sponsored by Erb4Herb and Deviant Fibers from British Columbia, as well as local business Gord’s Smoke Shop Ltd.
