May trial set for man charged with possession of steroids and marijuana

An Edmonton man arrested in Red Deer late last April for possession of steroids and marijuana will go to trial next month.

An Edmonton man arrested in Red Deer late last April for possession of steroids and marijuana will go to trial next month.

Travis William Stewart, 23, was arrested on April 29, 2011, when Red Deer RCMP officers observed what they suspected to be a drug transaction take place inside a vehicle at the corner of Ross Street and 47th Avenue about 9 p.m.

RCMP alleged in a subsequent press release that the investigating officers found open liquor inside the car and both of its male occupants were arrested without incident.

Police alleged that further search uncovered an undisclosed quantity of marijuana, as well as anabolic steroids.

While charges were not laid against the other man, Stewart was charged with possession of marijuana for trafficking, production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

A preliminary hearing involving his charges was held in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on Feb. 8.

He is to be tried in Red Deer on Monday, May 7.
