Midget AAA Braves top Prince George

Blair Mulder knocked in three runs with two hits as the Red Deer Carstar Braves defeated the Prince George, B.C., Knights 5-3 in the midget AAA division of the Doc Plosky baseball tournament at Sherwood Park during the weekend.

Mark Fay also had two hits, while Curtis Mazurkewich stroked a two-run single. Scott Trapp got the win, allowing three runs on six hits while fanning five batters over six and one-third innings.

The Braves also lost 10-0 to the Calgary Redbirds and 7-5 to the Calgary Longhorns.

Fay was the loser against the Redbirds, giving up nine earned runs on eight hits over three and two-thirds innings. He also recorded four strikeouts.

In the loss to the Longhorns, Jonah Penner drove in two runs and Corbyn Shields stroked an RBI single. Brady Porter took the loss, allowing two runs on two hits while recording one strikeout over three frames.

Bantam AAA Braves stumble

The Red Deer Servus Credit Union Braves posted a 1-2 record in the bantam AAA division of the Doc Plotsky baseball tournament in Sherwood Park during the weekend, and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Braves’ lone win was an 8-3 conquest of Sherwood Park Green as Joel Mazurkewich stroked a single and triple and drove in a run. Ty Elliott had a single and triple, Mack Guckert contributed a pair of singles and drove in two runs, Nathan Damiani had a single and double and one RBI, and Jason Garrett cracked a pair of singles and plated one runner.

Garrett started on the Braves’ mound and garnered the victory, allowing two runs on three hits while fanning two batters. Tyler Galloway recorded the save, surrendering one run on four hits while fanning three batters over three innings.

Elliott, as the starting pitcher, took the loss in an 11-0 thumping by the Saskatoon Cardinals. He gave up four runs on four hits and recorded three strikeouts, while relievers Jayden Hutlet and Levi Moon allowed four and three runs, respectively.

Garrett was three-for-four at the plate— driving in two runs with three singles — in a losing cause as the Braves fell 8-6 to the Edmonton Cardinals. Mazurkewich stroked a single and triple with two runs scored, Moon cracked a pair of singles and Damiani took the loss, giving up seven runs on eights hit while recording two strikeouts in four innings of mound duty.
