Military museum in Calgary looking for return of artifacts

CALGARY — The Military Museum in Calgary is asking for people’s help to get back hundreds of artifacts that have disappeared in the last few years.

Calgary police say they have tracked 60 items to a dealer.

And a Good Samaritan turned in some pieces when he discovered they were from the museum.

Museum officials noticed the items were missing after a security review in the summer of 2010 and went to police.

Tom Doucette, the museum’s executive director, says none of the missing items is rare.

But he adds they have an intrinsic value more than a monetary one.

Doucette says there’s a lot of interest in military memorabilia.

“I think it’s quite huge,” he said. “I don’t know exactly, but I know a number of people are very, very interested in military, both private and collectors.”
