A bar blitz by the Red Deer Public Safety Compliance Team found mostly minor infractions for local drinking establishments, but laid one charge against a minor.

The underage person was charged with attempting to enter a licensed premise and was issued a $115 ticket for doing so. Verbal warnings were given to owners and managers for other minor infractions found during the 13-bar search on Friday.

The team entered establishments in Red Deer looking for over-serving of alcohol, serving to underage patrons, fire code violations and to ensure the establishments weren’t exceeding their occupancy limits.

According to a press release from Red Deer RCMP, there have been improvements every time one of these checks has been conducted. However, Red Deer Emergency Services would like to remind all business owners to keep emergency exits unobstructed at all times.

Red Deer RCMP, Emergency services, Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission, City of Red Deer Inspections and Licensing and Alberta Health Services comprise the tem. They focus on prevention and enforcement, with the goals of improving the safety of staff and patrons, decreasing violence and reducing the negative impact drinking establishments have on the community.

The inspections of Red Deer drinking establishments will continue on a regular but random basis.
