Jon Finnigan notched the lone goal for the Rebels on passes from BJ Duffin and Ty Mappin. Dasan Sydora was the losing netminder.

The Optimist Rebels are in Strathmore Friday to take on the UFA Bisons and host the Calgary Buffaloes Saturday at 4:45 p.m. at the Arena.

• The Optimist Rebels will face some international competition in the Calgary Mac’s midget tournament Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.

The Rebels are in a pool with Severstal/Locomotiv and in fact will face the Russians in their first game at 3:30 p.m. on Boxing Day at the Max Bell Centre.

Also in Red Deer’s five-team pool in the 40-team male division are the Saskatoon Blazers, Calgary Flames and Greater Vancouver Canadians. The Rebels take on Saskatoon Dec. 27 at 8 p.m. at the Father David Bauer Arena, face the Flames Dec. 29 at 2:30 p.m. and clash with Greater Vancouver Dec. 30 at 2:30 p.m. — with the latter two games also played at Father David Bauer.

The quarter-finals and semifinals will be played Dec. 31 with the championship final set for New Year’s Day at 6 p.m. at the Saddledome.

• The Red Deer Sutter Fund major midget girls Chiefs will compete in the 15-team female division of the Mac’s tournament, opening against the Vancouver Fusion on Dec. 26 at 4:30 p.m.

The Chiefs will do battle with the Lloydminster Steelers Dec. 27 at 6 p.m. at Max Bell, will clash with the Saskatoon Stars two days later at 1 p.m. at Max Bell and will close out pool play with a Dec. 30 meeting with the Calgary Flyers at 8 a.m.

All games are at the Max Bell Centre, including the Jan. 1 final at 2 p.m.
