Minor hockey briefs – Jan. 16


Major Bantam

The Red Deer Rebels Black fell short in a pair of Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League games during the weekend, falling 4-3 to visiting Fort Saskatchewan and 9-1 to the host Calgary Bisons.

Parker Smyth, Layne Bensmiller and Logan Linnell scored against Fort Saskatchewan and Nolan Dyck potted the lone goals against the Bisons. Carson Franks stopped 25 shots in the first outing and Franks and Cole Sears combined to make 30 saves against Calgary.

Meanwhile, the Rebels White split a pair of games, losing 5-4 to host Spruce Grove and doubling the visiting Calgary Bronks 4-2.

Riley Mathies, Andrew Perry, Chase Olsen and Brad Makofka scored in the win over the Bronks. Red Deer netminder Branden Bilodeau made 27 saves.

Quentin Greenwood, with two goals, Brenden Baker and Mack Differenz were the Rebels White marksmen at Spruce Grove, where Bilodeau turned aside 30 shots in a losing cause.

Bantam AA

Nick Knezacek notched the lone goal for Red Deer Ramada in a 4-1 exhibition loss to the Denver, CO., Araphoe Ice Warriors at the Collicutt Centre.

Ramada netminders Josh King and Michael Ozga combined to make 45 saves.

Bantam A

Red Deer Frontier Bus Lines finished with a 2-2 record in a weekend tournament at Camrose.

Frontier opened with a 6-2 loss to Cold Lake, getting both of their goals from Carter Bennett, then defeated Fort Saskatchewan 7-3 as Braden Olsen and Kody Knash each tallied twice and Brad Penney, Beau Aubin and Carson Stuve also connected.

From there, Frontier beat Calmar 5-2 and fell 6-3 to Boyle.

Olsen, with two goals, Stuve, Curtis Hallman and Kody Kapalka scored against Calmar and Penney, Olsen and Bronson Spearing connected in the loss to Boyle.

Atom A

Kyle Gerrits erupted for seven goals as the Bentley Canucks outlasted Red Deer KFC 11-9.

Kayde Budgell scored twice for the winners, who got single goals from Ryan Gyori and Nathan Swarz. Jace Paarup had two goals for KFC and Mateo Perich, Cole Hardman, Jarvis Gaume, Josh Zinger, Cameron Kungle, Cade Mason and Colby Chavez-Leech each scored once in a losing cause.

The Red Deer squad also dropped a 7-5 decision to the Sylvan Lake Lakers. Paarup, with two goals, Gaume, Hunter Marchildon and Jager Larsen scored for KFC, with Caileb Berge firing three goals for the Lakers, Zach Jurak adding two and Gage Matwiy and Jacob Berdahl each scoring once.
