MLA pay out of touch with reality

Among the issues thrown up by the recent Alberta provincial election was the thorny subject of the amount of money received by MLAs.MLAs get way more than a living wage, at an average $163,000 for 2010-2011, over three times that of a worker in manufacturing.

MLAs get way more than a living wage, at an average $163,000 for 2010-2011, over three times that of a worker in manufacturing.

Working people need MLAs who live at the same level and understand their day-to-day problems. Politicians on high incomes become removed from the realities of the lives of ordinary working people.

NDP MLAs should work for the average industrial wage with their expenses vetted by their constituency parties and be subject to recall. This would ensure that they are the best MLAs who work for people and not for huge rewards.
