Montreal flights only a start for the airline: Qatar Airways CEO

The CEO of Qatar Airways says he hopes to expand upon the airline’s initial service to Canada beyond the three flights per week between Montreal and Doha.

MONTREAL — The CEO of Qatar Airways says he hopes to expand upon the airline’s initial service to Canada beyond the three flights per week between Montreal and Doha.

Entering Canada provides passengers more choice and options, Akbar Al Baker said at a news conference on Thursday.

“But with only three flights a week to Montreal, we are constrained by the limited capacity,” he told reporters.

Qatar hopes to expand to daily service but needs to convince the Canadian government, which has restricted expansion efforts by U.A.E. rival Emirates Airways.
