HALIFAX — Mother Goose is dead.

Staff at the Halifax Public Gardens say the popular bird, a fixture at the Victorian-style gardens in the city’s south end, died Monday.

Fondly named Mother or Momma Goose, she was dropped off at the gardens over 20 years ago and never left.

Mother Goose has been confused on occasion with Gracie the Public Gardens Duck, which is a fictional character in a book of the same name by Judith Neyrick.

Park staff say Mother Goose was friendly and gentle, and brought a great deal of pleasure to all who came in contact with her.
