HOBBEMA — An Alberta Mountie is in surgery after being hit by a suspect driving an ATV in a troubled aboriginal community south of Edmonton.

RCMP say the constable was responding to reports of shots being fired at a home Sunday on the Louis Bull reserve townsite near Hobbema.

Police say the officer’s leg was broken when he stepped out of his car to stop a man driving an all-terrain vehicle and the suspect accelerated and struck him.

Clinton Roasting is charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life and criminal negligent operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

Police are searching for a second suspect, Shawn Roasting, who has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The four reserves in the Hobbema area have been plagued with gang-related shootings and other violence in recent years.
