Murray leads strong Red Deer team at cross country meet

Alexa Murray was a double medalist in the Sport Women’s category for the Red Deer Nordic Ski Club at a cross-country meet during the weekend.

Alexa Murray was a double medalist in the Sport Women’s category for the Red Deer Nordic Ski Club at a cross-country meet during the weekend.

Murray won the 4km classic individual competition Saturday and was second in the 3,1km free skate individual start Sunday.

Dallas Zimmerman was also a double medalist as he placed third in both the 4km classic and 3.1km free skate in the midget boys’ division. Gavin Rittammer was second in the midget boys’ classic and fourth in the free skate. Cody Mast placed eighth in the classic and ninth in the free skate.

Anna Zimmerman took third in the 6.7km juvenile girls’ free skate and fifth in the 5.5km classic while Megan Johnson was seventh in both races.

Claire Espey picked up the other medal for the club as she was third in the 3.1km midget girls’ free skate and fifth in the 4km classic. Bailey Johnson placed fourth and Kate Marr-Laing seventh in the classic with Marr-Laing sixth and Johnson ninth in the free skate.

Junior boys, 11km: Matt Hope, sixth; Adrian Christ, eighth; Matt Van Mulligan, ninth.

Junior girls, 6.7km: Amelia Espey, seventh; Alex Johnson, ninth.

Juvenile boys, 6.7km: Devin Chambers, seventh; Chris Marr-Laing, 16th.
