The third annual A Life of Lexx Fundraiser is striving to raise just as much awareness about spinal muscular atrophy as funds to help find a cure for the leading genetic killer of children under the age of two. One in 40 people carry the gene that causes this disease. And one in 6,000 babies worldwide are born with this condition that leaves individuals with no muscle tone. A Life for Lexx Fundraiser will be held on Oct. 22 at the Holiday Inn on 67th Street at 5 p.m. The event includes a dinner, silent auction, fun casino and poker tournament, door prizes and more. Organizers have committed to raising at least $5,000 for research this year. Over $25,000 was raised in the first two years, of which $15,000 was donated towards finding a cure. The remainder of the funds have helped covered the medical expenses of Lexx Howell, a three-year-old Red Deer boy who has spinal muscular atrophy. Tickets for A Life for Lexx are $100 per person or $750 for table of eight. Tickets for just the event (no dinner) are $75 per person.
