WESTASKIWIN — A neighbour of a woman accused of killing her two young sons describe her as a good mother.

Allyson McConnell is on trial on two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of 2-1/2-year-old Connor and 10-month-old Jayden in February 2010.

Marless Litzenberger told the court McConnell was — quote — “great” with her children.

She also testified Alyson was a caring and attentive mother, but became depressed during a bitter separation with her husband in late 2009.

McConnell has admitted to drowning the children, but has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The central issue at trial is her state of mind when she did it — the same day she killed her children, she tried to commit suicide by jumping off an Edmonton overpass.
