New challenge course unveiled at Nordegg’s Goldeye Centre

Ingenuity and teamwork will be put to the test in a new challenge course unveiled at Nordegg’s Goldeye Centre.

Two high-rope and a pair of low-rope courses have been created along with a giant swing, zip line and climbing wall.

Koda’s Challenge is designed to help in team-building exercises, self-esteem development and the other programs offered at Goldeye.

“We were just kind of trying to find something else to offer our guests and provide something that this part of Alberta didn’t really have much of,” said Stephanie Cloutier, on-site recreational programmer at the centre.

Construction on the elaborate setup of ropes, ladders, cargo nets and platforms was begun in late March and finished last month.

The challenges were designed with versions available for youths and adults. Dozens of variations of activities, offering both mental and physical challenges, are possible.

For instance, a jungle traverse requires participants to work their way across a span using platforms that get progressively smaller.

Other tests involve trying to get as all team members over a wall or navigating across a bridge of two foot cables.

The challenge courses are available to guests and those who have booked programs at the Goldeye Centre, which is run by the not-for-profit Goldeye Foundation Society. The retreat just off Hwy 11 remains focused on youth but can also be used for corporate outings, conferences, weddings, workshops and other events.

Half-day programs range in price for $16 per youth for the low ropes course to $45 for adults for the high ropes course.

The centre also offers a variety of overnight stays in hotel-, hostel- or dorm-styled accommodations.
