News anchor Barb Higgins says she is running to become Calgary mayor

CALGARY — Veteran TV news anchor Barb Higgins has joined the race to become Calgary’s next mayor.

CALGARY — Veteran TV news anchor Barb Higgins has joined the race to become Calgary’s next mayor.

The former announcer quit her job at CTV Calgary last week.

Higgins says she decided to run because she couldn’t stay neutral as a journalist any longer.

She calls herself a fiscal conservative, but didn’t release her campaign platform Wednesday at a news conference.

Higgins says if she becomes mayor she would set the tone at City Hall and then empower employees to come up with solutions to deal with Calgary’s $60 million budget shortfall.

Higgins is one of the more high-profile of the eleven candidates who have announced they are running for mayor in the Oct. 18 civic election.
