The illegal marijuana growing industry in the Calgary area is going to pot after police seized more than 13,500 plants in a series of raids.

CALGARY — The illegal marijuana growing industry in the Calgary area is going to pot after police seized more than 13,500 plants in a series of raids.

Police say the dope was found at nine grow operations in the city and in nearby Okotoks and Strathmore.

Officers also confiscated 44 kilograms of harvested marijuana.

Police say the grow ops were run by organized crime groups and the street value of the drugs is in the millions of dollars.
