EDMONTON — There will be no charges against an RCMP officer who shot and killed a man from the Driftpile First Nation in northern Alberta.

An investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, or ASIRT, has found that the Mountie was justified in his actions.

Local police and an RCMP emergency response team were call to a home on the Driftpile reserve on the shore of Lesser Slave Lake last November.

A man had barricaded himself inside the house and came out almost 12 hours later with a hunting rifle he aimed at officers.

He had already told an RCMP negotiator that he intended to shoot the police.

An officer twice shot the man, striking him once, and killed him.
