I love the Red Deer Advocate/Central Alberta Life for understanding that the wildlife in this province is amazing!
I always go through your paper because I have never seen a paper that features wildlife so often and your wildlife photography has never failed to amaze me — until this one!
I’ve always admired how you consistently choose to publish columnists that question, expose and inform us of government policies that take liberties with destruction of wildlife in this province.
This is another reason I found this picture and article disturbing.
I was especially disappointed in your paper for choosing to put this on the front page and to believe this was a photo worth sharing.
I believe everyone can understand how scary it must have been for Sylvan Lake residents and also understand that this must now be a huge relief but this picture made me feel sick!
The kill looked like the cougar suffered before dying and the smile on the officer’s face made it seem like this was a proud and happy ending.
I understand cougars and people don’t mix ever, but first the picture and then the article detailing how on one hand cougars are known for being elusive and avoiding humans but wait ... read on ... because the article now says there have been reports of children being attacked in their backyards. Where and when? Does a “report” now become a fact?
I think it became a fact when they needed help to justify the killing rather than choosing to tranquilize and relocate. Funny they seem to do that when it comes to bears.
Sorry Central Alberta Life, I believe I’ve always held you to a higher standard than the one you chose on March 20 and wanted you to know this matters.
