North Star Chiefs hammer Calgary Bruins

The Red Deer North Star Chiefs rolled into Calgary Saturday and pulled out a 7-3 win over the Northwest Bruins, getting two goals from Evan Ingram in the process.

Minor Midget AAA

The Red Deer North Star Chiefs rolled into Calgary Saturday and pulled out a 7-3 win over the Northwest Bruins, getting two goals from Evan Ingram in the process.

Also scoring for the Chiefs in the minor AAA contest were Jayden Rausch, Jack Goranson, Scott Ferguson, Cole Visser and Kyle Messervey, while Anthony Hamill made 18 saves.

Midget

The Red Deer Elks split a pair of AA games on the weekend, beating the Rocky Mountain House Royals 6-0 in provincial play and losing 7-4 to the Calgary Bruins in league play.

Tanner Lomsnes, Dion Daoust, Justin Moltzahn, Brock Forbes, Kyle Colonna and Mitch Lightbown scored against Rocky. Davis Reykdal stopped 25 shots in recording the shutout.

The Elks won the two game total goal series 13-4 and will now play Sylvan Lake in the Zone 4 final for the AA major division.

Tanner Howe, Nick Keoughan, Moltzahn, and Daoust scored in the loss to Calgary. Dasan Sydora faced 43 shots in goal.

In other AA play, the Red Deer ProStitch Chiefs dropped two games — 6-3 at home against the Calgary Blackhawks and 3-2 at Cranbrook.

Collin Richard potted two goals and Adam Ferguson had one against the Blackhawks, who fired 32 shots at ProStitch netminder Brady Nydokus.

Chris Rauckman and Brendan Dennis scored for the Chiefs at Cranbrook. Taylor Steele made 40 saves in defeat.

• The Red Deer Kings Energy Chiefs were fit to be tied in A-plus action during the weekend.

Kane Weik fired three goals, Dustin Paul had a pair and Dylan Cole also scored in a 6-6 draw with Sundre, and Ryan Gallant tallied twice and Cole, Chandler Knibb and Jordan Joynes also connected in a 5-5 tie with the Thunderstars.

Raffiq Manji made 30 saves against Sundre and Brady Jewan stopped 29 shots against the Thunderstars.

The Chiefs also dropped a 3-1 decision to Beaumont in provincial playoff action. Jaye Sutherland notched the lone goal for the Chiefs, who got a 24-save effort from Jewan.

In other A-plus action, the Red Deer Prairie Bus Lines Chiefs improved their league record to 13-4-1 with a 6-6 tie with Hobbema and a 10-3 win over Innisfail. Prairie sits second in the North Central League.

Bantam

Red Deer’s two AA teams — Ramada and the Steel Kings — each tasted defeat Sunday.

Ramada fell 4-1 to the visiting Wheatland Warriors, getting its lone goal from Bryce Abell and a 27-save effort from Jordan Legge.

The Steel Kings, with Mitch Morrison ruining the Timbewolves’ shutout bid, were 9-1 losers to host Bow Valley. Losing goalie Branden Bilodeau made 36 saves.

Both Red Deer clubs were also winless Saturday, as Ramada dropped a 5-2 decision to Wheatland at Hussar, and the Steel Kings were crushed 12-1 by the host Cranbrooke Ice.

Scoring for Ramada were Abell and Jesse Muirhead, while Legge blocked 28 shots for the visitors.

The Steel Kings’ only goal was scored by Blayne Friesen. Cole Sears made 24 saves for the losing team, while Bilodeau stopped all four shots he faced.

Peewee Girls

Brenna Martin tallied twice and Mairaed Bast, Holly Wells and Maddison Toppe also scored as the Red Deer Sutter Fund ‘A’ Chiefs moved into top spot in the Rocky Mountain League with a 5-0 win over Olds.

Alexandra Galenzoski posted the shutout.

Sutter Fund also battled Calgary High Voltage to a 1-1 draw, getting a lone goal from Carly Wlad. The Chiefs own a 9-2-2 record.

Peewee

The Red Deer TBS Chiefs racked up a pair of one-sided AA weekend wins, beating the Taber Golden Suns 8-1 and whipping Wheatland 12-1.

Parker Smyth scored four goals in the win against Taber, with Nolan Burnett, Ryan Vandervlis, Kyle Gibson, and Caden Shybunka adding singles and Josh King stopped 19 shots for the win.

Tyler Graber sniped four goals against Wheatland, while Vandervlis and Josh Bussard each scored twice and Smyth, Burnett, Gibson and Ben Isaac also connected. Winning goalie Klayton Sandquist made 18 saves.

Meanwhile, the Red Deer Parkland Transmission Chiefs recorded a tie and a loss, falling 9-1 to first-place Bow Valley and earning a 3-3 draw with the Foothills Bisons.

Luke Coleman was the lone sniper versus Bow Valley. Dawson Weatherill made 41 saves in a losing cause.

Coleman scored twice and Tyler Wall also tallied against Foothills, while Westin Cardwell stopped 26 shots.
