North Star Chiefs post a perfect weekend

Chase Thudium notched three goals as the Red Deer North Star Chiefs capped a perfect 2-0 weekend with a 5-3 win Sunday over the visiting Calgary Blue. Mathew Thiessen tallied twice for the Chiefs, who outshot their guests 30-26. Jayden Sittler made 23 saves for the winners.

Midget AAA Minor

Chase Thudium notched three goals as the Red Deer North Star Chiefs capped a perfect 2-0 weekend with a 5-3 win Sunday over the visiting Calgary Blue.

Mathew Thiessen tallied twice for the Chiefs, who outshot their guests 30-26. Jayden Sittler made 23 saves for the winners.

North Star, with Jaden Sveinson and Michael Pruss each scoring twice and also adding one and two assists respectively, defeated the Calgary Blazers 8-4 Saturday at the Centrium.

Also scoring for the winners were Thiessen, Andrew Nielsen, Russ McLennan and Ryan Swier. Rylan Bardick made 21 saves.

Midget

Jaye Sutherland had two goals in a losing effort as the Red Deer Pro-Stitch Chiefs fell 5-4 to Lacombe in AA action despite holding a 54-15 advantage in shots.

Jack Goranson and Kane Weik also beat Lacombe netminder Brandon Woltjer, who made 50 saves. Troy Maclise scored twice for Lacombe and Ben Funkhouser, Garrett Glasman, Chase Bennett each had one.

Pro-Stitch defeated the Red Deer Elks 3-2 Sunday as Goranson, Cole Visser and Adam Ferguson tallied and Brady Nydokus stopped 34 shots. Connor Einhorn and Ian McLellan replied for the Elks.

The Elks ripped the Innisfail Flyers 7-0 as Brady Jewan stopped all 27 shots he faced and Kwyn Hiebert scored twice.

Einhorn, McLellan, Jordy Potter, Spencer Yeats and Dylan Cole had the other Elks goals against Innisfail netminders Greg Pols and Klay Munro, who combined for 41 saves.

The Flyers also fell 6-1 to the Airdrie Lightning as Tom Vanderlinde scored a first-period goal and Cole Wallawein made 38 saves.

Bantam

Brady Park scored once and added an assist as Ramada downed the Steel Kings 5-2 in an all-Red Deer AA weekend contest.

Caden Shybunka, Ryan Vandervlis, Kirt Fortney and Reid Sterling had the other Ramada goals, while Michael Ozga made 19 saves. Louis Leclerc and Dawson Reykdal replied for the Steel Kings, who got a 24-stop outing from Geordan Andrew.

Ramada also fell 6-0 to the visiting Bow Valley Timberwolves, who fired 58 shots at Red Deer netminder Josh King.

The Lacombe Rockets got goals from Ty Wagar and David Luymes while dropping a 5-2 decision to Airdrie. Rockets goalie Lane Congdon made 32 saves.

In addition, the Rockets dropped a 3-2 decision to visiting Okotoks 3-3 as Luymes and Riley Workman had the Lacombe goals.

The Innisfail Flyers, with Neil Rose, Josh Gette and Brett Dach each scoring once, tied Medicine Hat 3-3. Innisfail goalie Aiden Doel blocked 38 shots.

The Flyers also blanked the host Brooks Outlaws 4-0 as Reid Money stopped 22 shots for the shutout and Ryan Grimberg, Josh Richardson, Quinn Layden and Nolan Pochapsky each potted a goal.

Peewee

The Red Deer TBS Chiefs picked up three points in weekend AA action, battling the host Lethbridge Eagles to a 4-4 tie and pasting the host Cranbrook Ice 10-2.

Payton LaGrange scored twice and Devon Fankhanel and Blake Mahura added single goals for the Chiefs at Lethbridge, where winning netminder Dawson Weatherill made 24 saves.

At Cranbrook, Josh Tarzwell fired four goals for TBS, which also got two-goal efforts from Fankhanel, Mural and Ryan Nielsen and a 24-save performance from Shane Massey.

Meanwhile, the Lacombe Rockets dropped a pair of home-ice contests, 6-0 to the Okotoks Oilers and 11-4 to the Wheatland Braves.

Justin Verveda stopped 36 shots in the loss to Okotoks, while Jordan Gill and Verveda combined to make 16 saves against Wheatland. Jarrett Brandon recorded a hat trick for Lacombe and Eric Pecharsky provided the other Rockets goal.

The Red Deer Parkland Chiefs ventured south and earned a 1-1 draw with the Eagles at Lethbridge, where Zachary Kungle scored the lone goal for the visitors and Justin Travis made 22 saves.

In addition, Parkland rolled into Taber and fell 6-3 to the Golden Suns as Jon Snydal and Tyler Friesen each notched a goal in a losing cause. Chiefs goaltender Klayton Sandquist made 31 saves.
