BUFFALO, N.Y. — Edmonton Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the NHL’s leading rookie scorer, is out indefinitely after a left shoulder injury prevented him from playing against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Coach Tom Renney didn’t have a timetable for Nugent-Hopkins’ return except to say he’ll miss at least two or three games after getting hurt in a 4-3 win at Chicago on Monday. Nugent-Hopkins was the first player selected in the NHL draft in June and leads rookies with 13 goals, 22 assists and 35 points in 38 games.

The Oilers were also minus defenceman Tom Gilbert, who hurt his knee after being slammed into the boards by Chicago’s Daniel Carcillo.

In the midst of a seven-game road trip, Edmonton recalled defenceman Colten Teubert and centre Josh Green from Oklahoma City of the AHL.
