Nugent-Hopkins wins rookie of the month honours

EDMONTON — Edmonton Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was selected the NHL’s rookie of the month of October on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old, who scored in his first NHL game, led all rookies with five goals and six assists in 11 games.

Nashville Predators centre Craig Smith was also considered with four goals and nine points in 11 games, as was centre Luke Adam of the Buffalo Sabres, who had three goals and six assists in 10 games.

Ottawa Senators left-winger Colin Greening (four goals, four assists in 12 games) and Colorado Avalanche left-winger Gabriel Landeskog (four goals, three assists in 11 games) were also nominated.
