EDMONTON — An Alberta oil company has been fined for spilling more than 2,000 barrels of oil and wastewater near Drayton Valley.

Alberta Environment says the pollution spilled from a broken pipeline between January and March 2008.

Investigators say the company responsible, Petenco Resources Ltd., also failed to report a separate spill of unrefined crude oil.

A provincial court judge fined Petenco $45,000 for breaking Alberta environmental protection laws.

Part of the fine will go toward restoring a wetland in the County of Wetaskiwin.
