Oilfield worker hit in head by pump jack, dies

DRAYTON VALLEY— A 36-year-old oilfield operator was killed when he was hit in the head by a pump jack in central Alberta.

DRAYTON VALLEY— A 36-year-old oilfield operator was killed when he was hit in the head by a pump jack in central Alberta.

Chris Chodan, spokesman for Alberta Employment and Immigration, says the man was working for Bonterra Oil and Gas near Drayton Valley, when he died Wednesday.

Company CEO George Fink says it’s a “difficult time” for staff.

He says only about 25 work out of the Drayton Valley office.

An investigation has been launched by Employment and Immigration.
