Okotoks Bison get best of Vipers

Jarren Nickle made 28 saves for the Vipers, who outshot their guests 40-33 at the Arena and were assessed 13 of 22 minor penalties and one of three majors.

The Vipers enjoyed more success Friday with a 5-1 win over the host High River Flyers.

Scoring for Red Deer were Lucas Deibert with two goals, Jeff Kohut, David Foord and Colten Brule, while Jason Pohl stopped 20 shots. The Vipers outshot the Flyers 35-22 and picked up eight of 14 minor penalties.

l Beau Sincennes, Bryce Veuger and Jared Williams each scored twice Sunday as the Blackfalds Wranglers buried the visiting Banff Academy Bears 13-1. Jason Bell, Karson French, Liam Wiese, Chance Abbott, Derek Wiedmer, Justin Lawson and Chad Muth also tallied for the Wranglers, while Reagan Hughes made 16 saves.

The Bears, with only 12 skaters, were outshot 80-17.

Blackfalds skated past the Mountainview Colts 5-2 Friday at Didsbury as Bell, Dylan Wiedmer, Wyatt Fraser, Riley Hansen and Lucas Fraser connected and Layne Swier came up huge with 55 saves.

l The Three Hills Thrashers posted a pair of weekend wins — 3-2 over the visiting Coaldale Copperheads and 6-2 over the host Medicine Hat Cubs.

Kevin Belt, Daniel Stollery and Luke Scheunert scored against Coaldale, with Brady Hoover blocking 27 shots.

Scoring for the Thrashers at Medicine Hat were Scheunert, Landon Kletke, Matt Wildeman, Jay Kirkham, Michael Stoetzel and Cameron Braun. Three Hills stopper Devon Dell made 26 saves.

l Shayne Liukkonen, Brett Ouellette, Eric Schmit and Kyler O’Connor scored for the Stettler Lightning and Steven Altman blocked 34 shots in a 4-3 victory over the host Strathmore Wheatland Kings.

l Kenton Siegle and Sean Emes scored in a losing cause as the Ponoka Stampeders were thumped 9-2 by the visiting Airdrie Lightning.

Ponoka’s Logan Stebner made 42 saves.
