The Olds Grizzlys announced Tuesday that Kevin Willison has resigned as head coach/director of hockey operations.

Assistant coach Brett Hopfe, a former Grizzly forward who graduated from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh following his AJHL playing career, will handle the head coaching duties for the remainder of the season. Team vice-president Ken Wolosiuk said the coaching situation will be re-evaluated during the off-season.

Willison was hired in 2010 and last season led the Grizzlys to a 23-30-0-7 record and fifth place in the South Division. Olds was then swept by the Calgary Mustangs in the first round of the playoffs.

The Grizzlys head into Friday’s game at Sherwood Park with a 9-19-0-3 record and were winless (0-7-1-2) in November.
