CHERRYVILLE, B.C. — One man is dead and another is missing and believed drowned after a weekend hike turned tragic along the canyon above Monashee Creek, east of Vernon, B.C.

RCMP say the 20 and 22-year-old men were hiking Saturday morning when both tumbled off a cliff near the community of Cherryville.

The body of the 22-year-old has been found at the bottom of the precipice.

A search is underway for the 20-year-old because it’s believed he may landed in the water after falling even farther than his companion.

The search is focusing on the fast-flowing waters of Monashee Creek.

Mounties say a friend of the two hikers alerted them to the accident.
