A driver is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 2 near Lacombe on Friday night.
Ponoka RCMP’s Integrated Traffic Services Unit responded at 7:40 p.m. to a report of a collision involving a minivan and a sport utility vehicle.
Police suggest a southbound SUV went off the highway, travelled through the median area and ended up in the northbound lanes where a minivan was travelling.
The driver and lone occupant of the minivan died at the scene.
Police say the SUV driver was transported to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and is currently listed in stable condition.
The crash resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes for several hours, while the southbound lanes were affected but not closed.
No other details were released.
