Opposition promises to produce a ‘doctor a day’

EDMONTON — Alberta opposition politicians say a “doctor a day” will come forward until the government calls a public inquiry into health care.

EDMONTON — Alberta opposition politicians say a “doctor a day” will come forward until the government calls a public inquiry into health care.

Liberal Leader David Swann has added two more documents to a growing pile of letters in the legislature from physicians who say they were intimidated for speaking out.

Swann released a 2009 letter from the United Nurses of Alberta complaining that former top health executive Stephen Duckett bullied nurses and that complaints were brushed aside.

He has also released a letter from another retired doctor who says he’s heard many complaints of intimidation from his colleagues.

Swann has joined Heather Forsyth, health critic for the Wildrose Alliance, in calling for an emergency debate.

Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky says he’ll wait to see a motion on the debate before deciding whether to support it.
