Optimist Rebels boost lead

The Red Deer Optimist Rebels increased their Alberta Midget Hockey League South Division lead to three points over the Lethbridge Y’Men with a 5-3 win over the Sherwood Park Kings on Sunday at the Arena.

Scoring for the 11-4-2 Rebels were Justin Faux, Kris Dalton, Brett Printz, Sam Jardine and Collin Valcourt, while Travis Weber turned aside 27 shots.

The Optimist Rebels, who have two games in hand on second-place Lethbridge, will host the St. Albert Raiders on Friday and the Edmonton Canadians two days later at the Arena, and will then play two road games before Christmas — Dec. 19 and 20 at Sherwood Park and St. Albert.

The Red Deer squad will then participate in the prestigious Mac’s midget tournament in Calgary, starting on Dec. 26.
