Optimist Rebels dominate Kings

The Red Deer Optimist Rebels ripped the host Sherwood Park Kings 8-1 Saturday to move into a first-place tie in the Chrysler (south) Division of the Alberta Midget Hockey League.

Team captain Conner Hartley scored twice for the Rebels, who improved to 10-4-3 and share top spot in their division with the Calgary Flames. Adding singles goals against the Dodge (north) Division leading Kings were Cole DeGraaf, Trent Hermary, Nick Glackin, Brady Bakke, Joel Topping and Ty Clay.

Brendan Mandrusiak made 24 saves for the visitors, who held a 32-25 advantage in shots.

The Optimist Rebels host the Flames Friday at 8 p.m. at the Arena.
