Optimist Rebels rally for tie with Bobcats

The Red Deer Optimist Rebels battled back from a two-goal deficit to pull out a 3-3 tie with the Lloydminster Bobcats in an Alberta Midget Hockey League game Sunday at the Arena.

Conner Hartley tallied twice for the Rebels, whose other goal was scored by 15-year-old Stefan Danielson. Brenden Mandrusiak faced 21 shots in the Red Deer goal, while the Rebels fired 24 shots at Bobcats goalie Ethan Wood.

The Rebels were hoping to build off their 4-1 win over the visiting Leduc Oil Kings Friday night. Brody Robinson led the winners with a pair of goals, with Landon Hiebert and Ty Clay also connecting for the Rebels.

Winning goalie Tanner Jaillet stopped 35 shots, losing his shutout bid with 51 seconds remaining. The Rebels fired 27 shots at the Leduc net.

The Optimist Rebels take on the Oil Kings Thursday at Leduc and are in Sherwood Park two days later to meet the Kings. Red Deer’s next home game is Dec. 3 versus the Calgary Flames.

l It was announced the Rebels have been invited to the annual Calgary Mac’s Christmas tournament.
